Subgiant are superb and to Sky, if you're UK based, Brad Pitt is presenting a radio documentary on Nick Drake sometime towards the end of May. Search the BBC website for details.

Yeah. Most of you fellas are probably not even from the same continent as me. (North America.) Crazy technology. Speaking of which, mad props to whoever put Elbow's new record, FSOL's Isness, and Tabla Beat Science Live in San Fran. Great discs. As for me, I'm listening to "You Are Here" of course. A lot. Also 808 State's Don Solaris, phenomenal album. And tons of a Japanese future jazz collective called the Seatbelts. Fantastic. That'll hold me 'til the summer, at least.
Generally Its been a hip hop week this week, with Iron Bridge's Toilet Humour featuring Dance to Your Daddy (best used of Greek samples until Zeus ), Phi Life Cypher, Roots Manuva and Madvillan getting rinsed. Bootsy Collins et al reared up for a while but retreated as soon as I got a Copy of You are Here.
This week at work we were mostly listening to: Iqizeh & Last Train To Lhasa; Krel "Ad Astra"; Hawkwind "Space Bandits" & "It Is The Business Of The Future To Be Dangerous"; Sunna "One Minite Science"; Shpongle Remixed; Tangerine Dream... lots of their 70's albums!; Ozric Tentacles "Spirals In Hyperspace". SCI-FI STEVE... http://www.stephenpalmer.co.uk
Banco - You are here.. Children of the Bong - Sirious Sounds.. and some White Stripes and Dimitri from Paris..
Palmer!! Steve... Mercury Rev's Deserters Songs is a GREAT record. I'm talking Delta Sun... See the Corporate Sea... those Sharks... I'm talking Opus 40 stones... with Spanish Candles... I'm talking Endlessly so I'll stop... Inspiral Carpets... Commercial Reign and the rest.
Big Country. Heard them on holiday and forgot how good they are.
GUID - yeah, I'm hooked now! I've also got hold of a couple of recent singles off "All Is Dream", and the album "See You On The Other Side". Top musical entertainment! .... Does anybody know how the early Flaming Lips albums compare to their most recent masterpiece "Yoshimi..." SCI-FI STEVE...
Webmaster - Could we build an additional PAGE turn option posted at the top of the +50 message boards so that we don't have to scroll through past messages we've already read? It would be so much more convenient?
Page: 1 · 2 →

1-50 of 63 posts
Sci-Fi Steve Re- earlier flaming lips stuff. Alot more experimental would be a good start. I really like "yoshimi.....", it's got loads of great songs on it, and I loved hearing "do you realise?" on the radio in amongst the rest of the guff. But This album sounds to me as though the 'lips are heading into REM territory, and good luck to Wayne (on first name terms) he deserves everything he can get. My favourite has got to be "Hit To Death..." every thing from packaging to tunes is beautiful. And do if you can check out the truly insane "Zaireeka". Hint to Toby. Infact I can honestly say go to your best record shop and buy anything by the 'lips, you won't be dissapointed for the music, the song titles, the great/mad ideas.
They follow like wolve in a sheep clothe... they follow like wolve in a sheep clothe... brilliant loob. makes me laugh like a freak,
Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - Santa Esmeralda
OK, one final question... how come Dave Fridmann is in Mercury Rev *and* in The Flaming Lips? I knew he was in TFL, but I'm seeing his name all over the Mercury Rev stuff! SCI-FI STEVE...

Have you had a listen to the album by Ott - Blumenkraft, modern dubby goodness...
Grit by Martyn Bennett. A wonderful album. The best way to describe the sound of Grit, take an early traditional recording, add the sonic landscape of bjork, turn up the volume, press play and enjoy. I dare you not to get up and dance. You just can't help yourself.
i cant believe no-ones mentioned you are here on this thread yet!!!!....I havent been listening to it, cause I havent got it yet, but I'm sure I will do after I get it at the gig in leicester.... this week i've still been listening to Blumankraft (and some drum and bass)
