Likewise I've got some mates who are always goin on about him and say he's very good. I saw him at Glasto last year and it had a very brazilian feel to it, good stuff.

Speaking as a big manu chao fan, I would deffo advise you all to listen to his sounds. He sings in French, Spanish and I do believe there is some Algerian too. The music is a real mix of spanish- flamenco/french/arabic influences with the use of acordian etc. I always really enjoy listening to him ..his lyrics are also pretty meaningful which adds to him!!(spanish friend thankfully has translated various tracks) Maybe the cd to start off with is Esperanza. Look up information on Mano Negra too. I don't know the connection, perhaps he Mano Chau was the main man or vice versa. I have records of both of them and some songs appear twice so they must be connected. (ie King of Bongo) I saw them (Mano Negra) once at Glastonbury and they were absolutely brilliant so I guess Mano Chau would be just as good live.

Yeah i saw Manu Chao in concert about four years ago in Italy...and it was absolutely amazing!!! Before i had never heard of them and while i was visiting in Italy my friend took me and i did not know what to expect. I wasn't sure what type of genre I'd be listening to. But to my good suprise I was very impressed. Impressed by the various genres incorporated in their music (reggae, jazz, acoustic solo) and impressed by how some songs had very intellectually stimulating lyrical content. Plus being able to incorporate various languages so that people from most regions of the world can understand is another success in its own.....

I'm amazed at the influence Manu chao has. I bought his CD on a whim a coupe years back and thought it was a sort of underground band. Appanrently he is very well known. I love his music and I just wanted to contribute that the lyrics are mostly in spanish but with some in french English or portuguese. When translated most also contain some sort of revolutinary/devient theme. Its great stuff!!

Does anyone know how I can contact Mr. Chao. My roots are in Spain and I am trying to find out if we are related in some way. My grandfather was exiled from Spain and left some relatives there. Any help would be appreciated.

Manu Chao is the man. He is like a modern day musical bandit. Heavily influenced by the whole Brazilian sound. Whilst also being influenced by classical flamenco and arabic music styles. Blending all this together, over tequila and weed, to create a truely unique sound...Even if you dont speak portugese or french you will still get the 'feel' of his lyrics. He is a genius of his time...
