So a buddy of mine was telling me that the Pink Floyd song Echoes was initially intended to be the soundtrack for the Jupiter And Beyond The Infinite sequence of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Apparently if you play the song along with the movie, it lines up near perfectly to the images. Eager to prove his point, he loaded it up Youtube, where you can find a whole bunch of vids in support of the theory. At that, I said, "Hey, Banco did a cover of the song, why don't we play THAT instead to see if it lines up?" So we did. And lo, it certainly does! What I wonder is whether Mr. Marks tested his version against the movie before committing it to disc, and if he might be tempted to play a vid of Jupiter And Beyond The Infinite should he ever play Echoes live. ;) Christian (~)
Interesteing, I certainly didn't intend that but will certainly check it out. I also remember people saying that Dark Side Of The Moon fits perfectly with The wizard of Oz, can't say I was convinced by that one though.
The best 'line-up' occurs some 11 minutes in, where things get all spacey and psychedelic. That's where the 'negative landscape footage' begins in the sequence. Seems appropriate. ;)
