I never knew there were so many Megadog fans out there! I went to a few at Manchester and Preston, and the womad at Morcambe, but it all finished within 18months of me faling in love with megadog! I have to say, the beach party did it for me... hallucinogen shaking the dancefloor so that it was like being on a bouncy castle, stilted aliens, some joker moving all the tents so that we couldn't find our way back (I did actually find that hilarious at the time!) Rescuing people who'd been trapped in the enchanted forest for 4hours, people trying to break in on speedboats, fairies with eyedrops in the morning... I could go on forever! And Michael Dog has to be one of the sweetest blokes ever! If anyone has any info on future Mega Teabag stuff or could tell me of anything similar somewhere either in the Midlands or where I could get to from Birmingham on a train without too much hassle I'd love them forever! Ta!

I wish I was too young to remember the George Robey! But I used to live in Kentish Town and headed for Club Dog on a weekly basis. It was bloody great!
I have particularly fond memories of taking mushrooms the night The Mad Professor played.
The Megadog was more 'ravey', but Club Dog DJs played all sorts of stuff; Hendrix, reggae, folk, whatever. I don't know of anywhere now that is as radical (musically) as the Dog was then.

Yes I used to go down to Club dog even when it was in an old community centre somewhere north of finsbury park,The Ozrics playing there as one of my earliest memories, but you know how hazy these memories get, don't you?

Yes I remember thunderdogs, and it had something to do with Nat and Rollie(?) or something.. there was something to do with archaos as well.

I played in a band called Mystery School, anyone remember us?

who remembers Back to the Planet?

Lo Jez - long time and all that....

I'm Jim (of Jim and Alan) - last time I saw u was at a party in a wood up in Notts somwhere....

Al and I used to provide some live sounds for the Tribal Energy boys back in the early 90's - at Deptford, Camberwell DSS, Cooltan and a great New Years eve in Kings Cross - wow those were the days...

We also played at one of the Club Dog birthday parties (6 years methinks) supporting the Mad Professor - that's the pinnacle of my musical career!!

Club Dog was a weekly thing in our house..

Hi guys! I was the Stage Manager at the Rocket in North London when the Dogs relocated from the George Robey (sticky floors, dodgy clientele, GB that is!). The gigs were always fairly challenging because of the fairly unstructured nature of them - (being careful here!). The mystery of the dressing room CO2 fire extinguishers being empty after the gigs - found out later that they were used to chill cases of beer! MC Teabag coming around to my house after returning from some tour - he'd had a package delivered whilst away, went to get it and found it to be a cabbage - obviously in an advanced state of decomposition! He spent ages muttering on about how victims of the French Revolution were sent cabbages before being beheaded! He was very paranoid at the time. I got given a Michael Dog- mixed tape that was in a tape player that was stolen from my house during a burglary I told Michael in the hope that he would give me a new one and he did - point being that he was SO upset and solicitous about the burglary that I didn't ask him for a second replacement 3 months after that when I lost my Walkman for fear of causing him such grief and pain again! I got made redundant from the Rocket and when it reopened a so-called mate ripped off my job with a series of underhand actions so I moved (back) to the Westcountry to take a Degree (never having had much of an education the 1st time round) and did a bit of crewing work for an agency (oh how are the mighty fallen!) and worked on the Eclipse Megadog near Plymouth. Bob Dog took one look at me and said, " Thank f**k, someone who knows what they're doing - I need this, that, the other.....". I told him that I was a mere crewperson on this particular gig but it didn't stop him and needless to say, this put a few (local) noses out of joint! Happy times indeed - post a message if there's any more goss or info you think I may be able to help with - meanwhile, if anybody needs a sh*thot Stage/Tour Manager let me know. Regards - Rocket Steve.

seeeeeeeeeerious convulsheons!!! we were the old couple at the back of the Academy whose 6 kids and their partners and friends danced and juggled around us. there must have been 50 or 60 people we knew which made it a fantastic family event and always got both feet off the ground. amazing times - the big white light schwoooom moment when you look around and see all the eyes shine!

Moved to america later and was amazed when the megadog turned up in DC. i seem to remember toby playing at 7.15 which was just wrong. the locals were on the small dance floor all night competing at drum and bass moves leaving us and about 3 others to squeeze out a few memories. But it was well appreciated. Come back one day.

saw Timeshard at Brixton Academy, weird night. Planet Dog label therefore Megadog? Anyway, night started with rocket engines and taking off into space, Timeshard striding in in huge silver space-suits, naked women painted silver on stils striding though the crowds like robots, all nighter - end of night landing and returning to earth! Walking home feeling Wide-awake and heavily disorientated!
Also Return to the Source, Brixton Fridge, (i think). Luminous dancers, fire jugglers, hot heaving luminescent crowd, mate of mine passing out because he was so stoned, and sitting in the cafe, when the owner sees us - comes over and chats about why we were leaving (to carry his comatose, glassy eyed body home). Sad that we had to leave before the night was over, giving us our money back and an invite to coe back next week for free! We didn't even ask or think about asking for that, we just wanted to carry our sad waster-mate home! What a nice man he was!

Did anyone see Poisoned Electric Head. They used to wear the Geiger style suits. They were amazing. I was in Tulse Hill, London with work last week and went past a few of my old haunts. 121 Railton Road, an anarchist bookshop. Plus I saw Cooltan, I think it's now a DSS learning centre or something. It felt like another time, another world, felt like another existance, felt like a totally different person lived there. I felt a lot. Very strong feelings of nostalgia, it felt so sad and I felt it physically in my heart and stomach. Well I'm going back at the end of the month for 2 weeks so I'll have more time to explore. They were the best times of my life. My first love, my first broken heart, my first gig. I wonder what everyone is doing now?

some one help me, did any one go or no any one that went to vibalive at the pressure point on the 30th july. If you did you will remember me i was dancing pretty hard all night had yellow trousers and a womble rucksack. Thing is i am a little shy with women and there was one there that i badly wanted to talk to, but did not dont even know her name. What i do know is she is very pretty, blonde hair, she was wearing a short black dress, knee high boots, and the girl she was with was with a guy with a black vibealive tea shirt on. I dont know if she has a fellow but if any one can work out who she is email me on dj_narcotic03@yahoo.co.uk. if you do find her she will know who the guy with the womble rucksack is.....

NO, NO, NO, not on this thread please. This thread is about Megadog Memories, and as such has a legitimate place on this forum. Cheap publicity notices (whether linked to Megadog or not) should be on their own threads or better still their own websites. How about best ever single megadog anyone? Hugely enjoyed many and saw many great bands, but the best one for me was probably Sabre-tooth Dog in nottingham, cos it was the first gig I ever promoted. Wow, some night!! Cheerio

Bllody heck just lookin' at that sends a chill up me spine. Probably still got the set list in me scraps box in the loft. Totally amazing experience. Cheerio

Can't think why I didn't make it to that one, Neilardo! Memories hazy but remember seeing Transglobal Underground, EgBamYasi, Banco De Gaia at one Garvey Megadog. It was packed and my girlfriend Bekki fainted and landed on someone. Sorry if it was you. Anyway such was the atmosphere that she got straight back up and started dancing with a beaming smile on her face. Another Garvey time featured Aphex Twin I believe but struggling to recall support acts...I do remember making friends with someone who gave me a blowback. I enjoyed it so much I decided to return the favour, and ended up burning my lips quite severely. I walked around like this :- o with great big swollen lips for the rest of the night, trying not to smile. It burns! it burns! I miss the Drum Club, saw them and Underworld on tour together in the winter of 93-94 at Leicester. Totally Awesome Danceathon...By far the best was the Midi Circus at Brixton Summer 2003 Psychick Warriors ov Gaia, Eat Static, Drum Club + Steve Hillage, Underworld, Transglobal Underground, Orbital, Aphex Twin , lx Paterson etc etc. 10 hrs of Mega Mania! Watch out for the strobe tunnel that you had to walk through to get to the dancefloor. Lynsey. I never saw Poisoned Electrick Head but I met them at Glastonbury 1999. One of them was called "CLOD" and he was ringing a large triangle in the Stone Circle Field at about 8 in the morning, yelling Wake UP! at the top of his voice. Megadog People...Happy Days...Good to know you are still out there!

Manchester Megadog circa Feb 1994. Higher Intelligence Agency + others. My first 'hammered in a club' experience. I remember hanging on to the railings round the sound booth for dear life. My friends giving me speed water honestly thinkinh they where helping. Loved it then, love it now. Orbital at the Herbal Tea Party was another classic.

I once featured on a Herbal poster. My mother was so proud!

fluffy nineties trance is where it's at. banco/drum club/eat static (implant period) astralasia. i really miss that whole oscillate/megadog scene. techno seems to have got itself in a big damned hurry.

oscillate though was the best club for me. they would start the night off really chillled electronica at 9. the music would build up to a live set at 12pm (saw banco, biosphere and hia at bonds in brum) and then a dj would play quite dancey stuff until 2am. just the best nights.

Dear Dreammaker, all I'm saying's that several other threads have become clogged up with discussion of upcoming nights, being rather old and (some may say) sad I don't go out much these days, so i just wanted to save this thread from such a fate. After all it is megadog memories, and speaking of which WOW duncathon leicester underworld/drum-club, now that was some fucking night. How good were underworld that night? the very best, one of the best sets I ever saw, did you see the Mmm-dog as well, a year or two later? And was it that night that the very lovely charlie hall of drum club played a DJ set down stairs in the room next to the bar? Now that's what I call megadog memories. Cheers duncathon. toodle-oo

...and of course toby at nottingham polytechnic students union in 1994 or so, first time I saw Banco live. Really low key, he just set up in the corner of the student bar which looked a bit like the inside of a submarine at the time. There weren't many people there but we all danced. That was the night that marie met franz and bekki slapped me round the face for some reason. She really was a cow, you know. The set was mostly Maya including a memorable Qurna (Mr christian on the decks). It was a lovely, lovely, night. not sure if it counts as a megadog but I have very happy memories of it. My mate Tom used to do a dance that looked like he was climbing a ladder on the spot. He is married to a danish ice hockey player now...sorry I've lost the plot...does anyone remember that night?

I haven't been here for ages and the thread is still going. I had a few more memories but after reading all the 141 replies, I've forgotten them again. Someone mentioned Michael Dog. He was so sweet. I remember though, a not so nice thought, a squat gig in North London which had to be stopped because somebody died....? I saw the person being stretchered out but did not know anything more. Anyone there? Michael Dog was. Still hunting for a Thunerdogs fan they had something to do with Spannerman. Did anyone see the amazing "kiss my axe" show at glastonbury one year in the distant past??

Well it's very nice to see that the flame still burns out there somewhere.

I work online and every now and then I do a search for Herbal Tea Party or Megadog and the results are usually shamefully poor. But not this time.

Megadog and tea party where a staple diet for me for years back in 93/94 through to 98 or so, mostly in Manchester but I did the Megadog New year gig in brixton and saw them at a few festivals. It's missed dearly. In fact the tea party venue in Manchester has long since gone, tennis courts there now, which kind of put a full stop on the whole thing :(. But not within. :)

You know what I mean.

I had the most fantastic unbeliveable experiences at both, that will live with me forever, countless bands countless DJ's. I sometimes think of doing a tea party revival. I have a friend, now a recording artist that knows the guy that used to organise them. Can't quiet remember his name myself.

Hands up who will come!!
but only if you'll let fly. :)
And don't invite MC teabag at least don't let him near a mike. :)
He's a good lad, but he kills the tunes with his wailing.

As for a venue, it's gotta be the Academy, best venue in town, always was.

Here's to wobbling down the front again, with a vengance. :)

Raise your hand.

This is fantastic, what a wonderful site, so many lovely people who remember what I consider to be the best clubbing season of my life. After the Ozrics played live at the Academy Manchester, and spawned Eat Static, boy did my life change as I waited with baited breath for another chance to see the guys spin me into another twisted night of euphoria. Many a mashed up night spent in Megadog and Tea-Party heaven, I was an old friend of Rob and Ian Fletcher (but lost touch when I moved from Manchester). I still have precious ticket of those nights, dating back to early 1993, when I encounter My first megadog(3) Saturday 6th November, featuring EAT STATIC-UNDERWORLD- THE DRUM CLUB, DJ's micheal dog, darren emerson & charlie hall. I would be really interested to come along to a reunion night and try those lovely tinctures from the tea parties again. and I would dearly love to see some pictures of those nights as I always to wasted to be in charge of a camera. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this as you have stirred some fantastic memories for me, and hello to all as I am posotive that I babbled at some of you guys while off my NUT.

My first ever Megadog = my first ever pill, at Leeds in May 97 with Michael Dog, DJ Evolution, Death in Vegas and Dreadzone. Until then I thought I hated dance music - I associated it only with the "Cheesy Chart Chunes" of the early-mid 90s. I didn't even know there WAS this underground...it totally blew my head and I ended up writing a story called E:volution about a girl's sexual and drug awakening, that's been published twice. Then a year after my first Dog, my mate Andy bought me a CD called "Exit Planet Dog" for my 22nd birthday and gave it to me when I was full of acid, and I heard Banco for the first time...

Fond memories of many Dogs in Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester - Eat Static, Binary Finary, Empirion... Me and my boyfriend made a dress out of an old nightie and painted it up with UV paint. One month I wore it, next month he did. A lot of guys were confused by that :-) Me and my best mate went to one Megadog in Manchester wearing only bubblewrap... we used to meet so many nice people at the Manchester ones, Tim "Nice but Dim", Ady, are you out there?

PS I remember the really tall guy (from one of the earliest posts on this thread) he was at my first one, wearing some kind of pyjamas...
And I know Bart who sells the Didjes at Glastonbury. What a small world.
